This is a Limited/Selective Access program.

Mission/Purpose

To graduate competent, caring providers who possess the knowledge (cognitive), skills (psychomotor), and professional (affective) attributes necessary to function as entry-level emergency medical technicians (EMT).

Program Overview

This program prepares graduates to function as entry-level emergency medical technicians. The program utilizes classroom instruction, hands-on skills labs, and field experiences to train students to respond to a variety of medical and trauma situations. Graduates of the technical certificate program may elect to continue for the program degree.

A minimum grade of C or higher must be achieved in all professional coursework.

Math Pathway

Students in this program are not required to complete math courses unless they are listed as part of the certificate program. If you plan to pursue the degree program in this same field, please note that this certificate articulates directly into a degree that includes a Mathematical Thinking in Context math pathway. Program Accreditation

The Florida State College at Jacksonville’s North Campus Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program is approved as an EMT Training Program by the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Medical Services, 4052 Bald Cypress Way, Tallahassee, FL, 32399, (850) 245-4440.

Application Procedure

Acceptance into the Emergency Medical Technician program is based upon academic performance and other criteria. A cohort is admitted each term. To be considered, individuals must complete the following by the appropriate application deadline:

  1. Complete an application for Florida State College at Jacksonville with Emergency Medical Technician as the Program Plan.

  2. Transcripts must be received from both high school/GED® and any postsecondary education. They must be official and sealed directly from the awarding institution. Transcripts may be delivered electronically to studentrecords@fscj.edu or by mail to: FSCJ Admissions Office, P.O. Box 40515, Jacksonville, FL 32203-0515.

  3. These additional admission requirements are to be completed after acceptance into the EMT program:

    1. Submit to a criminal background check (national);

    2. Submit to a drug screening;

    3. Provide proof of a physical examination;

    4. Provide proof of immunizations (rubella, German measles, mumps, varicella, H1N1 virus, hepatitis B, tuberculosis, and flu shot).

    5. Provide proof of current driver’s license;

    6. Provide proof of current personal injury protection (PIP) insurance coverage; and

    7. Provide proof of current health insurance coverage;

    8. Provide proof of current Basic Life Support provider (BLS) card (front and back). The approved providers are as follows:

Note: Admissions preference is given to fully qualified candidates who have met all entrance criteria, including the satisfaction of prerequisite courses. Should seats remain available in the program cohort, applicants who fulfill admissions criteria prior to the start of the program will be considered next.

Application Deadline(s)

  • Fall Term deadline (Day Cohort only): May 15

  • Spring Term deadline (Day Cohort only): September 15

  • Summer Term deadline (Night Cohort only): February 15

The program follows a cohort-based model and students who are enrolled full-time may complete coursework within 15-weeks.
