VERITCAL Career Readiness II (Specialized Career Education – Comprehensive) (C.C.) (5291)

This is a Selective Access program.

The purpose of this individualized job preparatory program is to provide specialized career education for students with significant cognitive/learning disabilities who, in addition to instructional accommodations, require modifications to the career and technical education CTE program in order to meet individual interests, abilities, and learning needs. The program goal is integrated competitive employment in the student’s chosen occupation.

The program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Instructional Support Services career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the related career cluster.

The curriculum includes but is not limited to: determining employment goals; demonstrating employability and self-advocacy skills; using technology, tools, equipment, and supplies safely and correctly; and, demonstrating personal productivity. Each course may also include job shadowing, on-the-job training (OJT) and/or internships to further strengthen the student’s learning experience throughout their career decision-making and job preparation process.

The program is individualized for each student and documented in an individualized plan of study (IPS). Instruction is competency-based with integrated academic, technical, and problem-solving skills.

Minimum requirements for acceptance and admission to this program are as follows:

1. Complete and submit Florida State College at Jacksonville application.

2. Complete and submit application (Specialized Career Education – Comprehensive).

3. Provide self-report disability status to Office of Services for Students with Disabilities (OSSD) or equivalent office (provide two forms of documentation of disability, including justification of accommodations).

4. Complete official interview with the Project Coordinator for program to determine eligibility and program acceptance.

The application deadline is at the end of the prior academic term.
