All students are required to pass a background check in order to complete field experience and EEC4940C - Internship Early Childhood. Failure to pass the background check may result in the student being unable to complete the course and program. For the exact cost for the background checks, please refer to the Field Experience Guide, which is located in the Field Experience Canvas Learning Management shell.

The most common reasons for being denied entrance into PK-12 field experiences and the internship include:

Two or more misdemeanor charge dispositions resulting in pre-trial diversion, a guilty plea, a plea of nolo contendere, and/or withhold of adjudication.
Unresolved criminal charges.
Prior employment termination for unsatisfactory performance.
Prior employment terminations for cause.

Students are encouraged to contact the program manager in advance if they have concerns about their clearance.
