Mission/Purpose
The Early Childhood Education A.S. degree equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue careers working with children from birth to eight years old in various early childhood settings. These settings include private and public childcare programs, Head Start initiatives, military childcare facilities, preschools, and pre-Kindergarten programs.
Program Overview
The Early Childhood Education A.S. degree is a comprehensive two-year program crafted to meet regional workforce needs while empowering students who are passionate about nurturing and educating young children, from birth to eight years old, in early childhood settings. Through this program, students gain the expertise to become early childhood educators or program directors, with a focus on supporting infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.
Graduates will be equipped to design and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum activities, apply key child development principles effectively, and oversee the operations of early childcare facilities. Additionally, the coursework directly articulates into the Early Childhood Education B.S. degree, paving the way for expanded career opportunities and professional growth.
Florida State College at Jacksonville is a Florida Department of Children and Families, Florida Childcare Professional Credential (FCCPC), and Director Credential-approved provider.
A minimum grade of C or higher must be achieved in all professional coursework and professional elective coursework.
