Description
This course introduces the philosophy and history of occupational therapy with an emphasis on the role of the occupational therapy assistant. Topics address the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework: Domain and Process (Framework), research, the American Occupational Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, existing and emerging practice settings, frames of reference, professional associations, supervision, role delineation, and clinical reasoning. Students will explore trends in healthcare and draft their personal definition of occupational therapy. Medical terminology safety procedures, bloodbourne pathogens, universal precautions, and HIPPA are addressed. Students must provide proof of CPR certification for Healthcare Providers and First Aid Certification through the American Heart Association prior to enrollment.
