OTH 1520C - Pediatrics in Occupational Therapy This course is designed to examine growth and development and its relationship to performance in occupations during the growing years. The etiology, symptoms, medical management, and prognosis of conditions that impede normal development are examined. Emphasis is placed on the occupational therapy assistant’s role in the occupational therapy process with concentration on identification of goals and intervention techniques based on theory. Topics to enhance further understanding of this special population include development of observation skills, play, application of handling techniques, understanding the important role of family and caregivers, and knowledge of pediatric evaluations and assessments. Legislation and pediatric settings including are addressed as they influence the process. This course is part of the four intervention courses.
Prerequisites: OTH 2420C Corequisites: None Credit Hours: 5 Contact Hours: 3 lecture hours; 4 laboratory hours Conditions: Must be accepted into the Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Degrees Offered: A.S.
