ASL 1300 - Linguistics of American Sign Language

This course is for the advanced signer with limited exposure to American Sign Language. American Sign Language, as used by deaf adults, is studied with an emphasis on the phonological, morphological, semantic, syntactical, and metaphorical aspects of American Sign Language. Current research in the field is examined and discussed. Enrollment in the ASL/English Interpreting program is not required to take this course.

Prerequisites: Qualify for enrollment in ENC 1101 or ENC 1101C and either ASL 1130 with a grade of C or higher, a passing score on the Proficiency in American Sign Language Communication Exam (PACE), or permission from the dean

Credit Hours: 3
Contact Hours: 3
Conditions: This course can be taken by students not enrolled in the ASL/English Interpreting program to satisfy Associate of Arts elective credits.
