College Reach-Out Program (CROP)

Florida State College at Jacksonville’s College Reach-Out Program (CROP) is a statewide initiative established in 1983 which is funded by the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) and is intended to increase the number of students in grades 6 through 12 who, upon secondary graduation, are admitted to and successfully complete postsecondary education. CROP primary purposes are to motivate, strengthen and enhance the knowledge of low-income and academically underserved students with their postsecondary journey. These are students who otherwise would be unlikely to be inspired to attend a Florida College System institution, state university, or independent postsecondary institution without motivating support and recruitment systems in place. FSCJ’s CROP Saturday Academy and GRADS are pre-collegiate readiness initiatives that exposes students to postsecondary life at an early age and expand their understanding of the higher educational process.

FSCJ’s CROP Saturday Academy (January-March, Saturdays) is an academic-based and informational workshop initiative for students in grades 6 through 12. Sessions and activities are strategically designed to equip students with essential information needed for successful academic pursuit from secondary to postsecondary graduation. Students experience growth in areas such as math, language arts, science, social studies and technology. Students receive preparation strategies to help boost their Florida Standard Assessment (FSA), SAT and ACT scores. Students participate in team-building activities; explore career options; STEM, financial, nutritional and reading workshops; cultural/career events; youth forums; award/recognition ceremonies; tour Florida’s colleges/universities and much more. Workshops and sessions are planned for parents/guardians to enlighten their knowledge of the family dynamics and to assist them with valuable information about their child’s educational process.

FSCJ’s CROP GRADS (Gaining Resources and Developing Skills) (June-July, Monday-Thursday) is an initiative that keep participating students in grades 6 through 12 focused over the summer on their educational path. Sessions are designed to prep students intensively for high achievement on the SAT/ACT. Life/Career Skills, Financial Literacy, Career Exploration tours, Community Service involvement, as well as other activities, are planned to expand students’ understanding for postsecondary groundwork to further equip them with necessary skills to transition through life successfully.
