Description

In this course, students will investigate how the national government is structured and how the American constitutional republic operates. It covers the philosophical and historical foundations of American government, including but not limited to the Declaration of Independence, the United States constitution and all its amendments, and The Federalist Papers. The course examines the branches of government and the government¿s laws, policies, and programs. It also examines the ways in which citizens participate in their government and ways their government responds to citizens. Topics may include federalism, civil liberties, civil rights, political parties, interest groups, political campaigns, voting rights/behavior, elections, the presidency, bureaucracy, Congress and the American judicial system.

Qualify for enrollment in ENC 1101

Conditions

Successful completion of this course satisfies the following Civic Literacy Competency Requirement: Prior to the award of an associate in arts or baccalaureate degree, first-time-in-college students entering a Florida College System institution in the 2018-2019 school year, and thereafter, must demonstrate competency in civic literacy (Florida Statute 1007.25, Section 4; State Board of Education Rule 6A-10.02413).
