Description
This course surveys the diverse history of Latin America from pre-Columbian times to the present. Topics will include native cultures; European exploration, conquest, and colonization; independence movements; and the political, economic, and social challenges of establishing new Latin American nations. The course will observe Latin American cultures through categories such as race, class, gender and ethnicity. The course will also cover recent trends and U.S.-Latin American relations.
